Stalin's dachas

Stalin's dachas

The myth that Stalin had many personal dachas, which he solely owned and freely disposed of, is not supported by historical facts. In fact, Stalin was not their legal owner: he could not inherit these objects, make a profit from them, or rent them out.

These dachas served primarily as state working residences, intended to organize the work of senior political leadership and receive foreign delegations. Likewise, the dachas of Soviet ministers and high-ranking officials were not their personal property—after resignation or transfer, they automatically passed to the next leader.
