We Demand an End to Turkey's Crimes Against Anti-Imperialists
A statement by the Moscow Network Hub of SOVINTERN: ahead of the NATO summit, Erdogan has arrested members of the World Anti-Imperialist Platform, including two Russian citizens.
Erdogan continues unprecedented repression ahead of the NATO summit. In June, 42 activists were detained, and pressure was exerted on dissenting teachers. Now, attempts to cleanse the political landscape out of a sense of servility towards the military alliance have reached a new level.
Any public events were banned in Ankara.
On July 1, members of the World Anti-Imperialist Platform were arrested; they had gathered to hold a non-public internal event outside Ankara. It is reported that among them were at least two Russian citizens: Alexander Mostov, Chairman of the International Youth Union of Friendship with the DPRK, and Darya Kadkina, Chairperson of the Altai Society for the Study of Juche Ideas. On July 2, a lawyer who arrived to defend his comrades and clients was brutally detained.
Numerous organizations of advocates and lawyers around the world are expressing their protest and demanding the release of illegally detained activists. Members of the World Anti-Imperialist Platform are holding events in support of their comrades. We join the demands to immediately release the anti-imperialists. No to the persecution of socialists!
