On Solidarity with the People of Nepal in Connection with the Devastating Flood in Rasuwa District

As a result of a sudden flash flood on the Bhotekoshi River, entire settlements were washed away, roads and bridges were destroyed, and infrastructure was severely damaged, including hydropower facilities and border structures. According to data available at the time of publication, at least 165 people have died, hundreds are reported missing, and dozens of injured are receiving hospital treatment. The destruction of transportation routes is seriously hampering rescue operations and the delivery of humanitarian aid.

Natural disasters of this scale know no borders, and in this time of trial, international solidarity becomes an urgent necessity. SOVINTERN calls on progressive forces, socialist and communist parties, trade unions, and public organizations around the world:

• to disseminate information about the tragedy through their networks;

• to provide whatever humanitarian assistance they can to the affected areas;

• to express solidarity with the people of Nepal through official statements and actions of support.

SOVINTERN notes that Nepal, as a country with rich socialist traditions and an active communist movement, has repeatedly demonstrated resilience in the face of natural and social challenges. We are confident that this time as well, the courage and selflessness of the Nepalese people, together with the support of the international community, will help overcome the consequences of this catastrophe.

SOVINTERN expresses special gratitude to our local node of the international network in Nepal (NESON), which promptly informs us about the scale of the disaster and coordinates efforts to provide assistance on the ground. We will continue to work closely with NESON and other fraternal organizations to monitor the situation and coordinate support.

SOVINTERN declares: in dealing with the consequences of natural disasters, there should be no place for political games and sanctions pressure. Only by joining forces, showing solidarity, and providing real assistance can humanity confront the challenges that nature throws at it.
