Do not let Cuba perish!

The government of the United States continues its inhumane, criminal, and gangster blockade policy against Cuba, depriving the country of the ability to import the oil it urgently needs. The result is disruptions in the operation of basic infrastructure, deaths due to power outages in hospitals, colossal difficulties in the healthcare and education sectors, and the gradual collapse of the Cuban economy.

Simultaneously, the U.S. government threatens military intervention on the island and advances completely absurd and ridiculous accusations that Cuba is allegedly arming itself to attack the United States.

This economic war, aimed at strangling Cuba, seeks to overthrow the regime in Havana and return the island to the era when it served as a brothel and casino for America.

Any collapse of Cuba would constitute a terrible defeat for all of democratic humanity. It would reward the United States' destruction of international law and intimidate any government seeking to exercise its sovereignty in the world — including even the governments of such alleged U.S. allies as Canada and Denmark.

But this is not all.

Washington openly declares its intention to secure the dismantling of Russian and Chinese missile early warning stations on the island. Their removal, combined with a new missile defense program — the «Star Wars» of our time — facilitates plans for a first nuclear strike and undermines all strategic stability between the United States, Russia, and China.

For all these reasons, we appeal to the BRICS countries, first and foremost to the leadership of China and Russia, as well as to the leaders of all other states, urging them to undertake joint practical initiatives to break the oil embargo against Cuba.

We are convinced that such initiatives would today garner approval and support from global public opinion, including public opinion within the United States and Europe themselves.

States that embrace this humanitarian initiative will only gain in prestige and popularity.

We understand why the governments we address hesitate to provoke another dangerous crisis in their relations with the United States. However, should Washington encounter practical resistance from a number of powerful states acting in concert, it will be unable to escalate to the level of crisis — especially given the already active front in Western Asia.

But even if this does not occur, a crisis is preferable to endorsing the unprecedented global aggression currently demonstrated by the United States. The longer humanity delays halting this phenomenon — and the only way to halt it is through decisive resistance to gangster imperialism — the more dangerous crises await it in the future.
