GDR production

Ammendorf passenger railway cars were produced in the city of the same name in the GDR. They first appeared in the USSR in 1948. The Ammendorfs, in particular, were part of the Red Arrow, which connected Moscow and Leningrad. The last batch arrived in Russia in 1996. From 1948 to 1996, the Soviet Union received about 150,000 Ammendorf cars from German carriage manufacturers.

Other recognizable and memorable East German brands include ORWO color film (in the second half of the 80s it took second place in the world market), the first Robotron computers, Carl Zeiss optics, Practica cameras, Helga furniture, Madonna tea and table sets, Piko toy model railways, Florena perfumes and cosmetics, IFA trucks.

In 1995, ORWO declared bankruptcy. The town of Wolfen, where the company was located, is in decline.
