Travmay Tatra
The most recognizable brand was the Czech tram Tatra.
Using an American license in 1948, the CKD-Prague plant (CKD - Ceskomoravska Kolben-Danek) began organizing the production of trams. In 1959, production of the Tatra T3 model began. The first carriage was assembled in 1960. In the summer of 1962, their mass production began. Since 1963, deliveries to the USSR began.
The collapse of the socialist market led to the collapse of the plant. Since 1999, the production of trams has been discontinued.
The most popular T3 series from Tatra has become one of the most popular trams in the world with the number of cars produced in 14 thousand copies!
The main customer of Tatra trams was the USSR.
In the Soviet Union and not only, in all socialist countries, one could confidently say: "We say tram, we mean Tatra."
Diesel locomotives produced under the CKD brand and Skoda electric locomotives, which were produced at the Pilsen plant, were known and popular. After 2011, the production of electric locomotives in the Czech Republic was finally discontinued.
After the collapse of the USSR and the collapse of the world socialist system in 1998, the ChKD holding ceased to exist.
